Answer» Can anyone tell me the highest Mhz CPU that I can drop into my Asus A7V WITHOUT having to play with jumpers, reconfigure bios settings or do much of anything to the computer. In 1995 I bought & built my computer with the HELP of a Tech Wizzy friend. I originally had a 750Mhz AMD K7, then a few years back I upgraded to a AMD Athlon 1.0 Mhz. Im running Windows XP, 640MB of SDRAM, Gforce FX 5200, an old sound blaster card. My Computer is used for GAMING mostly. Most games these days are requiring at least 1 Mhz. I play Everquest 2 which runs ok on med graphics settings even though they SPOUT that system requirements call for 1 gig of memory and a 1.2Mhz Cpu. I bought a new game the other day, Silent Hunter 3, just to find out that it won't even load the DVD in my computer. The gme CALLS for a 1.4Mhz CPu minimum. SO, I went to the PC shop & bought a AMD Sempron 2500+ 1.83hmz CPu only to find out that the guy at the store didn't realize that my Asus A7V has a FSB of 133 & the AMD 2500 has a FSB of 266 or somthing..anyways it didn't work & now they are chumping me 10% restocking fee when I return the CPU. Bottom line...............I don't want to make the same mistake twice.......So, Whats the fastest CPu that I can drop into my Assus A7V Rev 1.02 Without having to do much of anything........Oh can someone send me a pic of where the jumpers or switch is on my MOBO to open up the FSb to higher setting...
Thanks
CPUless in SeattleShall I ....no......imhao.......the pc is a work tool.....and not really made for gaming purposes.....i would by a playstation.......or thou pc gaming makers would like to think that their software will run on anything .....including the dustbin lid......it does not.....limitations are a bound.....pc//////games machince.....thats the reason for msoft bringing out the xbox.....so do what to spend idle cash ruining a p cto run a game! imhao.......You have maxed out that motherboard, 1000MHz is the limit. Take Merlin's suggestion. You can not expect new games to run properly on such an aging system. You should keep it for Internet, older games and other work that is not graphically demanding.

Overclocking would not do you much good. All jumper configurations can be found in the mainboard manual.
