Solve : Automatic Shutdown?

Answer»

Hi!
My computer automatically/randomly shutdown. sometimes it WONT turn back on until I re-seat the video card.

Additional information: Southbridge (CHIPSET) fan is not working for 2 years now.

Here is what I've tried:
1. CLEANED RAM and video card no avail
2. system restore, no avail.

System:
Windows 7 ultimate
AMD Athlon 2.8Ghz 64bit
1.5GB RAM

Your comments and suggestions are appreciated.

Should it be the wrong thread please move.Possibly chipset is getting hot. Suggest 1. monitoring temperatures with suitable utility suitable for motherboard brand/model 2. Replace southbridge fan. Maybe it is not the reseating of video card but the time it takes (cooling) that is the cure. 3. If motherboard has onboard video try using that and removing video card.

Agreed with Salmon.

To tell for sure, download and install speed fan once you have the computer running, and report back the temperatures here.

We will be able to tell you if the temperatures are in a safe VALUE range or not.
