I went out and bought a new sound card
This is really odd.

When I start that windows service normally my audio returns.
Oooops....sorry.Don't worry

The new card is being DETECTED, yes?

and if you installed the drivers I see no reason for it not to work.

Okay, so again, make sure the windows audio service is started
open the sound and audio devices panel again and the cards should be there.
under recording and playback set your new card to default.

try playing music again.have both sounds card in new and old which I cant removein my sounds & audio devices next to volume (no audio device) and all the settings (sounds, audio, voice) area I cannot select anything to change like its unavailableAll I can give you is

If they show up in device manager....under of course, the sound video and game controllers...then it is installed and working.

are there any yellow exclamation marks on any of them?
" " " red x's?

sounds like you don't have the proper drivers installed.Quote from: BC_Programmer on January 07, 2009, 07:14:55 PM

I'll make it quick & precise, I was uninstalling some programs on my cpu that I didnt use. After all said and DONE tried to listen to music the other day. I get a "bad direct sound driver please install proper drivers or select another device in config error code 88780078". now I uninstalled winamp and reinstalled it & updated it = no fix. I went out and bought a new sound card, still installed it = no fix. uninstalled my built in sound card and updated and reinstalled it = no fix. Any clue how I can fix this myself. thanks in advance

Do a system restore to before you deleted the drivers. GO back a couple weeks.
Take that new sound card out first.
