Solve : bf2 video settings?

I can play in a BF2 server on medium quality graphics, but it is choppy. Would purchasing a NVIDIA 6600GT make BF2 run SMOOTH on medium quality graphics?What are the other specifics of the machine?I've tried posting all specs in my profile signature. but it WONT work. anyways, here they are:
AMD Athlon XP 2000+ 1.7GHz
1.25GB of RAM
40GB 7200RPM HARD Drive
ATI RADEON 9550 256MB Video Card
