Solve : Bios password?

Answer»

I have an old compaq that has for some reason stopped working, and says error loading operating system. I tried PUTTING xp disc into the cd drive, but it wont work, probably cus its 3rd in the boot order, but anways, i cant get into bios. When i start the computer up it gets to the first screen that says compaq and in the bottom right it says setup(F10) and network settings (F12) when i push f10 it goes to another screen that says 200k KB ok and again the set up and network setting things r in the corner, after that it goes to a screen that says set up password, (if there is a password i dont kno it cus this computer is from like 5 years ago from my dads work that they didnt use anymore) I dont think i can change anything in bios without putting the right password in, so anyone kno how to get around this?I have no ANSWER for you but; about every month- someone (newbie) posts the same question......... we have no answer for you.... we don't encourage ~ Quote from: honvetops on September 06, 2007, 08:56:24 PM

So is there a way to do it? I don't want to know how, I'm just wondering if there is.On a dekstop PC you can reset the BIOS including passwords with a jumper on the motherboard. On a laptop it can be necessary to have the MANUFACTURER reset it.You can also reset the BIOS by removing the battery on the Motherboard for a short while. It is usually a silver battery the SIZE of a 2p or 25c coin (depending on your location!)
So no computer is really safe, no matter what sort of security it has. No, but some security schemes are safer than other. A bios password are by no means a safe way to protect data since it doesn't prevent someone from simply reseting the bios password or removing the HARD drives. If you got sensitive data to protect you need to encrypt it. So i simply pull out the battery right? should i be grounded to the comp or what?that worked great thx
