Solve : boot files and OS on different hard drives?

Answer» HEY guys. hope you don't mind helping a man with his interesting problem.

So here's the deal, i have my boot files on my C:\ since i originally was runing win 98 off of it. Later i upgraded and installed win2000 on an added hard drive (D:\). I've been running like this (only using win2000) for a while now (READ: years) and want to now replace my first drive with a bigger drive that i purcahsed so i can give the old one to family.
I read somewhere that boot files NEED be on the C:\ since it's the master, but could I somehow just switch my D:\ to master so it becomes my C:?

Idealy what i want to do is make my D:\ (that has win2000 on it) my master (C:\) and this secondary drive the slave(D:\)

I could just install a NEW OS on my new drive (having it as my master) and reinstall EVERYTHING but that's more than a SMALL matter so i want to avoid that if possible.

Thoughts? There are workarounds, but in the long run to avoid problems, i would personally do it the right way, and reload the O/S on the C drive. I wouldn't even think twice on this issue.
