Solve : Bought a New Monitor and now this...?

Answer»

I just purchased a new monitor the other day - the LG W2252TQ 22" monitor. The max resolution on this thing is supposed to be 1680 x 1050. Please note that I have had zero issues with this when running a game. The resolution looks great. I've had zero issues with flickering, etc... The issue I am having happens when I am on my desktop. I can't change the resolution at all. The driver is updated. It makes it look as if I can change the resolution but it always REVERTS back to 1024 x 768. I have an NVIDIA 7600 series GRAPHICS card. I tried to adjust the settings in the NVIDIA panel to no avail. My drivers are up to date for the graphics card as well. Any ideas as to what could be CAUSING this issue? Any ideas on how to fix it? I am connecting with a VGA cable. Do you think that could be the issue? I still don't quite understand how that would affect my being able to change the resolution on the desktop when it works fine in a game. Are you 100% sure that your graphic card suports that resolution? The monitor may not as well....ManualThe max resolution on my video card is 2560 x 1600. The monitor may not as well....Manual

I think I'm at a loss by what you mean.

The specs say:

Size 22"W
Resolution 1680 X 1050
Pixel Pitch 0.282 X 0.282
Brightness 300 cd/㎡
Contrast Ratio 10000:1 DFC (Original 700:1)
Viewing Angle H: 170°/V : 170° (CR≥5)
Response Time 2ms (GTG)
Display Colors 16.7M

It says it on the box, on the manual I am holding in my HAND and on every website I checked. If the monitor didn't support that resolution, why would it work in a game and then bounce out to 1024 x 768 in WinXP desktop? I haven't heard of anyone else having this sort of issue with the monitor.

Here's a link to the monitor:

http://www.lge.com/products/model/detail/W2252TQ.jhtmlmaybe the desktop don't support that resolution because if u change the resolution in desktop and you put a big one the icons will be very small so i think this is the problem. You simply can't put that resolution its too high .In games its okay don't compare desktop with games (games with high resolution are more detailed ) .Well in comparison, I'm on my cruddy little 17" Samsung Sync Master 170N monitor at work and I have the resolution set to 1280 x 1024. I should at least be able to get that on my PC at home. This thing I use at work has onboard video and the machine is crud. Not saying my machine at home is awesome...but it's way better than this. Well I use 1152x864 on desktop and its okay.I don't think you really NEED a big resolution on desktop. Quote from: Bgs on May 19, 2009, 09:43:25 AM

Well that is your preference.

According to LG Customer Service, I should be able to set the resolution higher on my desktop. I don't mind it being big for certain things but it's a real pain when trying to view a website and the type is all pixelated because of it.Hmm i will look for this problem but you should complain to LG .Yeah I already have a call into LG. It's a sad day when you know more than the tech people who work for the manufacturer. Wow .
