Solve : Broadband connection makes my computer run slow??

Answer»

Ok, I just cannot figure this one out - Why every time I connect the ethernet CABLE to my network card my computer becomes slow. Also, the computer seems  to take forever to shut down due to a message telling me it is saving the setting. This message seems to take forever before the computer finally shuts off, but on other occasions it just hangs the computer and i have to force it to shutdown using the button. When I disconnect this cable from the network card, the computer is quick to shut down and seems to be alot more responsive. So, I guess the question is this - Why would plugging and ethernet cable into an network adapter card cause all this trouble?

Ram: 2 gig corsair
motherboard: msi diamond
Soundcard: creative soundblaster
Windows: XP
CPU: Amd athlon 2.8 GHZ
Sky broadband: adsl 2 meg

Btw, I tried reinstalling the network card drivers and GOING through the repair in windows for the network card.Could it possible be in the middle of a Windows Update or an anti-virus update, when you "pull the plug"?Sky offers McAfee as an AV program so I'll bet it's either doing an update or a SCAN when you log off.As far I can see it isn't doing any virus or windows update when I shut it down. Mcafee anti virus isn't installed on my computer and I have turned off windows update. Do you have any other ideas why it keeps telling me that it is saving the setting, and why it runs so slow with this cable connected. Thanks!!This is strange. On a 15Megabit broadband connection on a 266MHz computer, internet ran slow.
2 Megabit is a little slow. You should clean install the OS and reinstall everything you used.
You may have a virus on your PC. It is not hardware related.
If you don't have a virus, try getting a new NIC. QUOTE from: neelchauhan on March 10, 2010, 02:38:47 PM

I am going to try a reinstall since I have tried most other THINGS. I Bought a new NIC already and it was still the same. I will let you know how I get on when I have the OS installed.
