Solve : Broken RAM??

Answer»

I'm running Windows XP and the Firefox browser. My question is: I was adding some RAM to my computer just a few mins ago, and it was my first time so i went ahead without READING any manuals and took out the 126mb STICK and POPPED in the 512mb stick. Then after it didn't go in i tried it the other way, then the other way, and back and forth 'till i finally got it in. What i noticed is that there are tiny little notches on the "modules", and i don't know if i damaged it or not. I'm sure it didn't have it before, and i don't want to keep busted things inside my computer. Can anyone help?If your computer is working...don't worry about it.

Just check your system information to se if the memory is installed. In XP: Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Information. Scroll down the page and you should see Total Physical Memory. If installed correctly, you should see the 512 you just installed.

In the future, RAM only goes in one way and there are notches on the stick which line up with notches in the slot of your motherboard. Some go in at an angle and some go in STRAIGHT. At any rate, once they are in, the clips that hold them should snap INT place if installed correctly. Never force anything into the slots of your motherboard, or you'll end up with a doorstop.
