Answer» I've aquired the above printer from a car boot sale - Person didn't want to take home what she didn't sell so gave her bit to me. Amongst was this printer.
It seems to be working ok EXCEPT that the LCD display doesn't work. OBVIOUSLY I can't change cartridges or do any checks cos I can't read what's happening. Do you know if I can get this as a spare part or shall I just chuck it?
Regards
MSmiss spooky, Welcome to the CH forums. Well you now face one of those life's momentous decisions we all from time to time face.Because it was free the price can't be beat. But it doesn't work. So what to do? Could cost MONEY and STILL may not work properly. It was in the "boot" for a reason (which it appears you have now DETERMINED). It may be possible to gain some use from it even without the LCD display. Is this one of those multi function units or is it just a printer? I do have a Brother it is an MFC multi function unit. If it is just a printer and you have the printer software you can go ahead and install the software and if it takes it and you can then turn the unit on you should get access to the printer via the task bar and go to print jobs from there. You should also be able to monitor ink levels and other fault information from the print window as well. I believe that you can use the unit without the LCD window if you are prepared to take a bit of time to learn what it does when you do certain things.Yes you could probably replace the LCD display but i suspect the cost of the LCD would be more than the cost of the printer. If you want to gain repair experience then you could go that route. However that may not be all that is wrong with it. I would try and use it just as it is if you can. goodluck, truenorth P.S. if you don't have it you can obtain a free manual from the Brother web site on-line.I agree with truenorth's advise. The software/driver for that printer should be downloadable from http://solutions.brother.com/dcp120c_eu_as/en_us/index.html but the link from that page to Downloads and Documentation did not work for me when I tried it. I suggest trying that link later; hopefully, they'll get the faulty links working.
Specifications on the printer are at http://solutions.brother.com/dcp120c_eu_as/en_us/spec_eu_as.html
