Solve : Building a new computer-need help? |

Answer» Not to discourage you right now but DDR3 is a waste of money for the speed increase... Those are amazing choices, but I will probably go with DDR3 RAM and the like. Is the i7 processor better than the Phenom II x4?Yes. Quote I noticed the motherboard I chose utilizes dual channel memory-yet DDR3 comes in packs of three. Do I have to buy a fourth stick to even it out? Or should I buy two packs of two?The Phenom boards use dual channel, whereas i7 uses triple channel so that kit is really designed for i7. Three sticks is perfectly fine, but two or four will run in dual channel. You most likely won't see a DIFFERENCE between single channel and dual channel though. Alternative parts?Unfortunately I'm not with it on AMD parts, so I'm not sure what to CHOOSE on that side. Someone else might be able to help. Quote EDIT: Also, should I go with the black edition processor for overclocking? Is it worth it?If you're planning on overclocking, yes, the NORMAL AMD processors won't overclock well at all. You'd also need a much better heatsink and fan because the Phenom CPUs run hot. Quote EDIT: Just noticed: If I go with DDR2 memory, I will save about 80 dollars. Should I do it? I mean, should I go with 8 GB DDR2 or 6 GB DDR3?Up to you. You most likely won't see a difference between DDR2 and DDR3 speed-wise, you may or may not use the extra 2Gb of RAM. Remember that you'll need a 64 bit OS to use more than 4GB, and if you fill all your RAM slots overclocking will be limited. Quote from: aniketkar94 on May 20, 2009, 06:42:00 PM I'm just wondering...what are the advantages of building? I have a doubt in my head...and can only think of the lower price and the customization. Two main advantages right there. Also you know how you've done everything (hopefully you've done it right ), so you don't have to double check anyone else's work ... indivudla warranties which are usually much longer than a system manufacturer's warranty ... better quality parts as computeruler says. |
