Solve : buying a new computer...?

Answer»

I am interested in buying a new desktop computer, but I am LOST among the many different choices. Here are my requirements:

- must be capable of dual monitor setup, each running at 1600x1200 resolution (specifically 2 Dell 2001FP's, which I already have)
- 512 MB of RAM
- Windows XP
- 10/100 ethernet card

Other than that, I just want to spend as little money as possible. What are my best manufacturor/model options here?

thanks very muchAre you planning on gaming or what with that? It MAKES a lot of difference. the computer will be exclusively used for personal work which is not terribly computationally intenstive but requires a lot of screen realestateHave you considered a SELF build, perhaps utilising a "barebones" kit?Only do that if you're patient. Make sure you have some knowledge of computers too, because there will be NO WARRANTY!

FlameCitardauq:

If you don't want to build your own, go with a manufacturer you trust. Possible choices:

* Dell
* HP
* Compaq
* Gateway
* eMachines
* Sony

Windows XP Home Edition will provide all you need, but take a look at the computers with Windows XP Media Center, especially if you might want to start working with much video, photos and music for PowerPoint or other presentation software.

Dells are inexpensive but as good as the others. You will have to order a Dell online. The others may be purchased online or at Best Buy, Circuit City, or some other computer retailer.

DocYou can also order dells over the phone, just fyi

Flamei would suggest you to think of self building, that is if you are technical! I have build my own PC and it costed me 30% less than if i was to shop it! With the same specs i required
