Answer» Hey, I was looking into buying a new processor.....i was wondering what kind of stuff do i need to know before buying one? A Friend told me you have to check your motherboard or something.....Cause you know how for a video card, you have to get a AGP or PCI to fit in your slot. How do you figure what type of brand you need to fit in the slot for a processor?
P.S Heres My Computer SPECS:
Intel Pentium 4 Processor 2.0GHz 1.5GB PC2100DDR Total Memory 60 HDD 16X MAX DVD_ROM Drive 40X Max CD_RW Drive XFX GeForce 6800 Xtreme 350MHZ 256MB 256BIT 1000MHZ GDDR3 AGP Dual DVI TV Out Video Card 56k V.90 Modem Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
Also I Hope you Understand what im trying to ASK. cause im not sure what type of processor i need.....there is a lot of different ones out there, for ex:
AM2 LGA771 LGA775 LGA775 BTX MICRO-S478 S478 S479 S603 S604 S754 S939 S940 Socket A

PLEASE HELP ME!! You put everything there except what motherboard you have. That is the sole deciding factor on what processor you can use.
If unsure, download and run the free Belarc Advisor to find your motherboard make and model.

Since you have a P4 on there you can rule out anything made by AMD on that BOARD.Thanks That program really help THX. This may be a stupid question , but....Is Motherboard the same as Main Circiut Board?? Cause this is what is said for Main Circuit board:
Board: Compaq 0804h Serial Number: 3D2ALBJRG0XY Bus Clock: 400 megahertz BIOS: Compaq 686O2 v2.14 08/15/2002If you have a Compaq, think "non-upgradeable". I wouldn't even entertain that notion. The stock power supply is barely adequate for what you have on there. Just enjoy it for what it is.
ANY processor upgrade should be ASKED of Compaq first. I'm sure their answer will be "non-supported" or something along thoses lines. You can make an expensive decision and buy something that doesn't work, or runs into other system bottlenecks.
