Solve : Ca I add IDE to SFF Dell 280??

Answer»

My MOTHERBOARD Name is: Dell OptiPlex GX280, running DELL OEM XP sp2
It is a SFF (Small Form Factor)
This BIOS says the thing has more that one SATA port and more that one IDE port. But when I look into the case I oily find one SATA connector and one IDE connector. The IDE is an oddball thing that goes to the CD-ROM drive.
I want to add more storage to this system.
On option is to buy a new HDD. The one in it now is a 40GB SATA.
In my junk fox I have two w0 and one 80. But only one of the 40 is SATA.
So I am thing I could add 40 GB to the system and tout would double my space and leave room for Windows 7.
I would take out the floppy to make room.
Any ideas before I go any further?
(Other than buy a real computer, I need this because I have limited space here, My wife's sowing machines are in the room and take moist of the desk space in here.)
If youve looked hard and can only find one sata port then it wont work, unless you get rid of the cd rom drive and put in a ide one. In the ssf THINGS its hard to use the same ide cable for something like the cd drive and a hard driveQuote from: computeruler on September 18, 2009, 03:33:08 PM

OK, I will try that. If I do not come back in a three hours, it means I DESTROYED it! Back again. I did not destroy it. When I saw the FDD was super thin and the power connectors are not right, I gave it up.
Instead, FOUND a refurbished 80GB SATA on eBay for $30 with shipping.

Case closed! Tanks!
