Solve : Can I over clock my AMD Phenom II X4 955BE on this motherboard?!??

Answer»

Here's the MOTHERBOARD's specs

www.msi.com/product/mb/760GM-E51.html#/?div=Detail

• HyperTransport 3.0 supporting SPEED up to 2.6GHz

Does this mean that the max processor speed will be 2.6GHz?!

No it does not. Current AMD processors have two external busses. One is used for communication between the CPU and RAM, and is simply called the “memory bus”. The other is for communication between the CPU and all other PC components through the motherboard chipset and is called HyperTransport. The chipset can RUN the HyperTransport bus faster (for high PERFORMANCE) or slower (for power saving). That 2.6 GHz speed is its maximum. It has nothing to do with CPU clock speed.
