Answer» I have an older Dell XPS 8933 and I want to repalce the hard drive for use as sort of a main storage for may small home network. Could I use an SCSI U320 80PIN drive? If so do I need other adaptors?
I want to use the Maxtor Atlas 15K drive
Thanks! You will need a SCSI controller card to do this. Thanks!!
Uh.... is that acceptable or does adding such a card get unrealiable? Oh sorry one other thing. I am in no way a computer tech guy, does it matter how many "Pins" there are for the drive??Every time you add new hardware it runs the risk of making your system less reliable, cheap MANUFACTURERS and their SHODDY drivers being the main reason. But with a good brand, you won't run into many problems.
Yes, the number of pins matters -- a drive with 80 pins won't plug into a card that only has 68 pins. Ordering though is simple enough -- just ask for a U320 80-pin scsi card, voila!
SCSI DRIVES are typically very reliable, long-lasting drives as they're intended (and priced) for ENTERPRISE use.
