While there is no reason not to turn the box on its side, be prepared for possible disc read errors. If that occurs, FORMAT the drive and reinstall the OS while the system is on its side.I never had a problem CHANGING how the machine sat without a format. The only problem I had was putting CD into the player. I had to hold them in place and close the tray at the same time.
