Solve : Can I use my monitor as a fishbowl??

Answer»

Ok, the story up til now!!!  I needed more memory for Windows XP upgrade.  Hey, I can do that.    Anyway, I did all of the appropriate research and found what I needed for my system.  I ordered (256 to add to 256) it and waited PATIENTLY (well kinda).  HURRAY, I got it today!  Well, I installed it & had some initial slot problems but got that all WORKED out.  I went to system overview & it registered the new memory but everything is just as slow as before.  So, I went to Kingston's troubleshooting guide & it said that I needed to "reset systems CMOS."  What?!? So, I went to ASUSTEK (model K7M) and DOWNLOADED the manual for my mboard.  I'm not sure it was in English.  So, I came here & I didn't understand what to do here either - I'm kind of dense & I only know enough about computers to really screw one up!  So, I place my computer into your cyber doctor hands & hope that I'll find someone who can write instructions like the whole "See Spot Run" series.  Don't get me wrong though if this doesn't work out I will figure out how to make a fish bowl!   If you dont understand what to do here either, I would suggest you take it to a shop. You can try using it as a fish bowl but i wouldnt recommend it. Quote

The more things you have running the slower your computer will be, sometimes these running things can even be viruses.
Is your computer virus/spyware free?As a matter of fact, I still have everything unplugged (speakers, printer, etc) from trying to make it run w/256 memory before.  So, I don't know what to think about that.  Ironically, the 14th of the month is when I have scheduled myself to do all of the virus/spyware cleaning & there wasn't anything there.  I have been sitting here researching for about two hours now & have finally figured out how to get to CMOS but now I just need to know what the correct SETTINGS are.  Do you have any suggestions for me?  I'm also wondering now if I shouldn't be looking in the BIOS area as well.  I know that I can do this, it'll just take patience & a sense of humor on my part.  Unfortunately, I don't have the money to take it to the shop.  So, any constructive suggestions would be greatly appreciated. And what did you scan your computer with?Yahoo anti-virus, anti-spywareDownload, install, update & run http://www.ewido.net/en/

256 -> 512 should show a marked improvement.  Great, thank you so much, Fed!  I've been in front of this computer a little too long tonite, my eyes have crossed & my brain is scrambled.  So, I must hit the pillows & get back at it in the AM.  I will let you know how it goes w/this website.  Thank you for your help!Need full specifications really, including drive size and speed.
