Solve : Can't Read Win& Install DVD? |
|
Answer» I have a Sony DVD RW DRU-V200A CD/DVD Drive which will not automatically start the Win 7 install DVD. Works on all of my other CD-R and CD discs. Trying to replace my XP OS with Win 7. Also can not find "setup.exe" to open MANUALLY. Instructions say to click Start, click Compuetr, double-click the drive and then double-click setup.exe. When I double-click the drive, all I get is the search window. Please help. Thanks. Sounds like it's the drive...try another bootable CD such as Ubuntu...Don't have Ubuntu. What about my Macrium bootable rescue cd? Aside from anything else, you need to make sure your system can support W7 - not all systems that shipped with XP can. Also, check to see if there are W7 drivers available for your system. Thanks Allan. Yes, I ran MS Win7 Upgrade Advisor TOOL and all of my hardware/drives checks out ok.I think OP got confused with drivers & drives. It has the DVD logo on the faceplate. Quote from: PCdoc on January 23, 2014, 06:59:48 AM I think OP got confused with drivers & drives. Don't think so. I called it a drive in my first post. Sorry, I meant to type "drivers", not "drives" in my response to Allan. The Win7 Upgrade Advisor says everything is ok plus I did use Device Manager to look for updates and there were not any.If it reads the Macrium CD...which is bootable but does not do the same with the Win7 DVD then it sounds like the Win7 CD was not created properly... Patio, I think the issue is my drive will read CD's but not DVD's. The Win7 Install disc is a DVD. I now know the Install DVD works because I checked it on the LIBRARY computer. Also, MS has confirmed I have a genuine product. MS said to restore my PC to factory default. If that does not work my drive is probably bad. I'm guessing I have a bad drive, ie it lost its ability to read DVD's.You can also once look for FIRMWARE updates to your dvd drive on your laptop's manufacturer's drivers download page. |
