Solve : cannot get video to work on new built computer?

Answer»

I am building a COMPUTER with a mix of new and used parts. I have a refurbished Asrock 775Dual-880Pro motherboard, a Used Pentium D cpu, and a new Radeon 9600 Pro Atlantis video card. The machine POWERS up fine though I don't get a beep from post. I can't get any signal to the monitor. I am hooked up to an older crt monitor that works fine on other computers and I tried my Dell flat screen lcd and got no signal there EITHER. The cpu came out of my old dell that crashed about a year ago. I built myself a new computer using just the drives from it so never did figure out what exactly died in it. Even if the cpu is a problem shouldn't I at least get the startup from the motherboard? It is 5 years since I took my A+ and have not kept up with the newer inovations. Need advice. ...new Radeon 9600 Pro Atlantis video card....
Which of these is this card installed in?
- 1 x PCI Express Graphics slot (@ x4 mode)
- 1 x AGP8X/4X slot (1.5V only)

This is your motherboard: http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=775Dual-880ProIt is a AGP8X/4X---- I have also tried 3 other video cards, one PCI, one PCIe and a different AGP, got the same no video signal on all of them. I am using the radeon because it is the most compatable of the lot. What about your RAM? Is it compatible with the motherboard and processor?

Post the specs of the RAM and how many GB are installed.Have 2 x 512 mb of DDR. Ultra brand. I have another set of PC2100 DDR I can try and also the set of DDR2 out of my old Dell. All of these are 512mb.Quote from: ragamuffin on February 05, 2010, 05:09:50 PM

Need more info.
Your new mobo supports DDRII 667/533/400 and DDR400 (PC3200), Dual Channel Technology (DDRII and DDR are supported separately)OK, what I have in it currently is ULT30215 400mhz DDR Dimm

I have 2 of these making 1gig of ram.

I have the ram out of the dell that is DDR2, 533mhz 2x512 making 1 gig. I can put these in instead. don't think I can run both at the same time. Manuel didn't say.Quote from: ragamuffin on February 05, 2010, 05:29:29 PM
...don't think I can run both at the same time. Manuel didn't say...
It says on the link I provided that they cannot be used simultaneously.
The DDR400 you have is compatible, but maybe not seated fully or not functioning. Try the other RAM.Just put them in and get the same no signal on the screen.Try doing a BIOS reset by following the instructions in the MANUAL. If that doesn't work, it's probably a defective motherboard.Thank you for your help. I cleared cmos and took out battery and after putting all back together still no video so can now try to exchange mother board. BTW, if CPU is bad you would see and get nothing. Some of the newer motherboards don't give beeps because they don't include a motherboard speaker anymore. There's probably a location for one on the pin header. However, since CPU was working before, there is no reason to believe it's bad. They are probably the most rugged and reliable component in the computer.
