Solve : Cannot power on computer after installing MS Updates? |
|
Answer» I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop running Windows XP which would not power up (This is my son's machine so I don't KNOW which SP if any have been installed). The machine would turn on the power LCD light and then shut completely down- I mean completely. I did all dionogistics I Know of (replaced fan, changed PCU,etc) and determined that it was a problem with the motherboard. I replaced the motherboard with one purchased on E-Bay and the machine booted up and it was running just OK (extremely slow!) so I decided to run the Windows Updates before I went any farther. After the updates were installed the machine was automaticly rebooted. After the machine shut down it would not boot up again so I shut down the machine manually, after that the machine returned to the origanal problem (When powered on the power LCD woulg go on then shut off the machine completely (I mean completely!). Can anyone help me with this problem? THANKSCould be hard DRIVE failure. A reformat of the computer could be necessary. Or the problem could be with both motherboards. Don't buy stuff like that off of ebay. Go to Newegg.com or a site that just sells computer parts. Quote from: lolopop81 on March 14, 2010, 05:38:13 PM Don't buy stuff like that off of ebay. It may be worth getting the computer taken to a professional to have the various hardware tested then you will know. It's hard to diagnose a problem when the computer fails to start. Is there anything on the screen when you turn the laptop on? Post screen, LOGO, etc?No, the computer will not stay powered up. Again, when I PUSH the power button the power LED lights for about 10 seconds and then the machine shuts down completely. I am going to TRY another motherboard and see what happens without the MS Updates. Thanks for your interest! |
