Solve : CARD READER TROUBLE?

Answer»

HELLO THERE,
HAVE RECENTLY BROUGHT A PLUG IN USB CARD READER SD/MMC/RS-MMC TO DOWNLOAD PICTURES FROM MY DIGITAL CAMERA,THE PROBLEM IS I CAN'T DO IT.MY COMPUTER IS WINDOWS XP.
WHEN I PLUG THE THING IN THE COMPUTER RECOGNISES IT AND HP317EXT{E:} POPS UP IN "MY COMPUTER",I KNOW THIS IS THE PLUG IN BECAUSE WHEN I PULL IT OUT THIS GOES AWAY.IF I THEN CLICK ON THIS 4 FILES COME UP :DCIM,MISC,NEW FOLDER,NEW FOLDER 2.ALL OF THESE WERE MODIFIED BEFORE I EVEN GOT THE PLUG IN?.IF I RIGHT CLICK ON ANY OF THESE FOLDERS I CAN'T OPEN ANY OF THEM,CAN'T RUN THEM,CAN'T SEARCH THEM,CAN'T AUTOPLAY THEM,CAN'T EVEN DELETE THEM,WHAT I CAN DO IS BROWSE WITH PAINT SHOP PRO 8,BUT THERE IS NOTHING IN HERE TO SEE,NO MATTER WHAT I KEY IN THERE EITHER.HOW DO I GET TO SEE MY PICTURES?THEY ARE NOWHERE ELSE ON MY COMPUTER I HAVE CHECKED EVERYWHERE,EVEN HAD A LITTLE DOG SCRATCHING AROUND TRYING TO FIND THEM.
I AM NO EXPERT WITH COMPUTERS{YOU CAN PROBABLY TELL,BUT EVERYTHING ELSE I HAVE TRIED TO DO I HAVE MANAGED WITH TRIAL AND ERROR,THIS HAS STUMPED ME,HAVE WASTED ABOUT 5 HOURS SO FAR{WHAT A MUPPET}.THANKSNEVER USE CAPITALS IN A PARAGRAPH LIKE THAT

So let me get this straight, you got a card reader for your sandisk and when you plugged it into the computer, it didn't work. Did I get it right?IT WORKS,JUST CAN'T FIND THE PICTURESOK seriously, no capitals please.

On the digital camera, can you view the pictures you took?
When the disk is plugged into the computer, right click on it and go to Properties. How mush memory is being taken up?hello there,
i went to properties,it is using 112kb of a possible 122mb,the file system is fat, searched for "fat",but still no pictures.Start/Search *.jpg and hit Enter...TRIM 186 ......Quote

HAVE RECENTLY BROUGHT A PLUG IN USB CARD READER
This card reader is an external one which connects to the computer via a USB cable...... Is that correct?
Can you provide a brand make and model number for us ?
Did it come with any software ?

WHEN I PLUG THE THING IN THE COMPUTER RECOGNISES IT AND HP317EXT{E:}
This is either a HP 317 diital camera or the actual card reader ........ Is the card reader a HP # 317 reader ?
The EXT ...probably denotes it's an external and the E: is the drive number the windows system has assigned it.
The pop up you see is normal...... whenever you plug in any new hardware , windows alerts you with a message in the lower corner of the screen that says......... Windows has detected new hardware........ this message will disappear after a few seconds and it is usually replaced with a new one which says , the new hardware has been successfully installed and is ready for use ( or words similar)
Next , I would assume that you would remove the media card from the camera , insert it into the appropriate slot in the card reader, now go to My computer, open drive E and the contents of the card should be displayed.....
Then , and I'm only guessing , you would select all the displayed pics , copy them to the clipboard and paste them into whichever folder you wish........
Did you not get any sort of manual with the reader or any instructions?
Please let us know ....
