Answer» Hi!
Is there any difference if I use a cat-5 or cat-5e network cable to connect my NOTEBOOK to the Cable/DSL Broadband Router which have 4-port 10/100Mbps switch. Is it ok to use cat-5e because currently I'm using the cat-5e network cable.
Thanks!Cat 5e is ok to connect with.
cat5e is cat5"enhanced" is a slightly improved version of cat5 and can replace any cat5 cable. It will give you the better performance on a large network. On your SMALL "network" you WOULD be unlikely to notice any difference. It has more to do with distance than anything else. Up to 50ft, cat5 os OK. More than 50ft, use cat5e.Cat 6 is preferred if you're working near the long limit of the cable, it's Shielded Twisted Pair cable certified for GIGABIT networks. Cat 5e is category 5 Unshielded Twisted Pair with tighter twist and a little better signal quality, good for 30 to 100 METER runs on 100BaseTX networks. Cat 5 is fine for short (25 meters or less) 100BaseTX runs and patch cords, and a little cheaper than Cat 5e. Cat 3 cable is adequate for between the router and the broadband appliance; the fastest private broadband is 5 or 6 Mb/sec and Cat 3 is certified for 10BaseT...
