Answer» Hi.
Recently (the last time I tried was about 2 months ago) games which require CDs have not been working. Once I click on the app the "CD Loading" CURSER appears but then there's the XP error sound "der!" with no error message whatsoever. Trying over and over brings the same results.
Audio CDs still play and game from CDs still install. Although I have noticed that 1) iTunes no longer recognises a NEW CD (unless it was inserted on iTunes start up) 2) When clicking on My Computer a new CD in the the D DRIVE is also not recognised.
Any help would be great. Oh it's a NEC DVD 3530a drive.
Thanks.
How old is the drive ? ?It sounds like the optics are getting ready to fail...
To verify this install it in a known working machine to see if the condition persists. If it does it's time for a new drive. Thanks for the speedy reply, Patio.
The drive is only 1 and a half years old. I don't use it too often.
It's gonna be quite a struggle for me to try the drive in another machine. Is there any chance something may have been deleted from my windows system folder? I had a "system OPTIMIZER" program a month or so ago which may have deleted files.
I've also noticed that WMP crashes when I try to play a dvd...To repair any missing system files go to Start / Run and type in sfc /scannow and hit Enter.
Note there is a space between sfc and /
Have your XP CD handy as it will ask for it.
Let it run to completion...do not interrupt it.
Re-boot and see if things improve.
