Solve : cd drive not reading??

Answer»

I've been having problems with my cd drive not reading any CDs.  When I put one in, the drive light blinks GREEN, then changes to orange and blinks faster.  Then, when I go to "my computer," it seems to think that there's nothing in the drive.

I've got an HP Pavilion 6835 (with Windows ME) and the drive is the original one that came with the computer (it has a CD burner).  I've tried the email help route with HP, but got nowhere.  They suggested resetting the BIOS (?), reinstalling the driver, and opening up the tower to make sure everything's still connected.  None of those things seemed to solve the problem.

I'd appreciate any help or suggestions!!  When has the problem first occurred?Well, things were kind of hectic b/c I had finals at SCHOOL and then moved back home for the summer.  I don't think it happened until I was back at home, which would make me think that maybe something did get disconnected along the way.  But like I said, it was a hectic time for me, so I wish I could remember better exactly when I first noticed it...

This afternoon I opened up the tower, and it looked like everything was still connected, from what I could tell, anyway.  I'm no computer expert, by any means, but I'm pretty sure that I was looking at the right connections.you need a drive cleaner from your cdrom drive.....also it may help if you cleaned  the cdisks....My dad had a CD lens cleaner cd that I tried, but it did no good.  If the drive won't recognize CDs, putting in a cleaner CD does nothing.   :-/

I THOUGHT that the behavior of the drive lights would tip someone off to what was wrong, but I guess not...it seems to me that it's doing something since the light changes, but during the process of trying to read the CD, something goes wrong. And you have reset the BIOS?Yes, I did reset the BIOS.  That was one suggestion from the email help at HP.I was not certain because it had a question mark behind it.

If you are able to, test the CD-ROM drive on another computer.I'm not really comfortable taking the drive out and messing with it.  Maybe I'll have to find some place to get it looked at...does this happen with all cd disks..... type msinfo32 in the run box.......now click on the + components  next you see......error devices+ click that........is should display an error code.......like code20 or whatever..... Yes, I'm having problems with any CDs I've tried.  I've tried blank CD-R's, STORE bought music CDs, and a CD with a photo editor-type program on it.

Under components, there was something called problem devices.  When I clicked that, I saw something like this:

Device
ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering
Error Code
22
That code is  ok the  windows may have disabled it?/ i  have have that code my pc>>> dont WORRY about it>... can you load the cdisk......and go to my computer window.....and right click on the drive the cdisk was put in....and click explore......does it work.....When I click "explore", the window pops up that says "please insert a disk into drive D:"that would indicate to me a dirty cdrive........try lens cleaner again.........if not try this>Fresh Diagnose

http://www.freshdevices.com/drive.html  it will test your cdrom drives etc....  aslo  you could check the cdrive settings....>.control panel.....click the systen icon....device manager.....scroll down the list to you see you cdrom drive....click the + then click properties and then click settings......it should read.....disconnect box ticked......auto notificaton  box ticked dma box ticked
