running windows xp on a hp pavilion xt973 cd drive worked fine then it got ver loud, and would not always be recognized by the computer i had to restart to get it to get it to show the cd drive i borrowed a cd drive from another computer that i know works still the same problem any ideas on the problem? thanksWhich operating system are you using? Have you scanned for viruses and Spyware? have you made any changes to your system recently?

[glb]Flame[/glb]OS is windows xp, nothing new to the computer that I can remember no SPY ware or VIRUS I cant find any thing wrong with it all connections are in tight everything seems fine except the slow startup and the very loud cd drive.Strange how another drive would do this as WELL.... How does the other drive connect? USB? It sounds like your computer might be sending it to much POWER, or trying to make it spin faster than it is able to...

[glb]Flame[/glb]Delete it in Device MANAGER and let WIndows reinstall it when booting up again. Does it make that noise with and without a CD inserted?Do you have NERO?



If you click on the Silent button does that improve things?I love NERO! But I lost it when I reformatted my old computer lol  lost the CD
