hello, i just purchased a new cr r/w from an internet shop.

it's a altec 48x12x48x....

here's my problem.. i connected all the neccesary cables and BOOTED up my pc.
when the pc is finally done booting up i noticed the "add new hardware wizard" on my DESKTOP with the message.. " Cannot intall the following device CD-ROM" ..."setup cannot find the specified file."

i check my device manager and the cdR/w drive has the Yellow Exclamation point next to it and says "device drivers are not installed for this device"

but here's the kicker...i can burn music cd's some how and it still reads what DISC i put in there. i need to figure out how to stop this annoying add new hardware wizard, and the little ballon in my taskbar that says new hardware found.

i have windows XP pro w/ service pack 2

thanks - justinWas this a replacementfor or an addition to another drive? Are all jumpers set correctly?Did you receive a driver on CD or floppy with the CD-RW drive? Have you visited the manufacturer's website to see about downloading a driver? Might also check their website to see WHETHER they have a firmware upgrade for this CD-RW drive.yes it's a replacement.

the webstie i bought it off of calls it "Altec 48x12x48x"
but on the ACTUAL drive it say... "CyQ've"

no cd w/ driver r such, just a cd with nero
...and i'm able to burn cd with that nero, but no my old version of nero.

and the jumpers r set just the way that my old cd r/w was set..so

i checked the websties for both..and i did find something that upgrades the firmware

but still everytime i turn my pc it comes up (the add hardware wiz)
