Solve : CD Rom Eject problems?

Answer»

I am currently using a 1.1 GHz computer with 256mb of RAM. I am using windows 98 operating system.

I have been running a DVD Rom as a Secondary master and CDROM as a secondary Slave.

I recently purchased a DVD Rewriter and replaced my old DVD Rom. The unit has set-up correctly and was using Master DVD5 to play DVDs and Nero to burn.

However when I open or close the tray in either the DVD or CDROM it now crashes the computer or restarts it!

I have tried un-installing the software and drivers and re-installing however this does not solve the problem. If there is a disc in the machine when I start up then I can see the contents.

I have tried removing the DVD and just running the CDROM but this does not MAKE any DIFFERENCE. I have also tried changing the properties of the driver but this does not help.

Any help would be appreciated. DVD RW set as master and PLACE at the end of the ribbon cable on IDE2...
Other optical drive set as slave and cabled to the middle of the ribbon cable on IDE2.

You could also try a brand NEW cable on this setup as well.

patio.  Tried the CDROMs in an older machine with various cables and they work fine! I've tried older CDROMs in the new machine and it has the same problem.

Suspect the power supply. I have tried connecting a seperate Power Supply to the CDROMs but it still causes computer to crash or re-start so don't think it can be PSU.

May try up-grading to Windows XP but not very keen on XP!

Try as patio suggests, put both CRROMs on the same cable. The CDROMs have always been on the same cable and it still causes the problem.

I've upgraded my system to XP and it appears to have solved the problem. Thanks for your SUGGESTIONS!I have always been running the CDROMs on the same cable. Did try running DVD on primary cable as a slave but did not make any difference.

Have upgraded to XP and this seems to have cured the problem!

Thanks for your help! You should always download the latest updates for Windows XP.
