Solve : cd rom error code (19) and (41)?

Answer»

my cd adn dvd rom isnt working.

if i go to 'my computer' the icons for the cd rom and dvd drives for me to click on.

if i open device MANAGER and check properties it says this--

for my cd drive (LG CD-RW CED8080B):
Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (CODE 41)

and for my DVD drive (SAMSUNG DVD-ROM SD-608):Windows cannot START this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

for the cd drive i can understand that perhaps something got disconnected its jus i never got around to opening up my comp to check but its too much of a coincidence that my dvd rom is messed as well at the same time, im suspecting some sort of virus or something cuz i think i got one a while back.

help would be greatly appreciated.

Uninstall drivers and reboot.

Are the devices properly connected? Are they detected in the BIOS?how do i check the BIOS?

ill try opening my comp to see if they are CONNECT properly but ive never disconnected anything from this computer before -- but i did open it once to install a ethernet cardHow to enter the BIOS or CMOS setup.

Did this problem start recently? What have you done in order to encounter this problem?

A registry problem was detected.

This can occur when more than one service is defined for a device, if there is a failure opening the service subkey, or if the driver name cannot be obtained from the service subkey. Try these options:

On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooting wizard.

Click Uninstall, and then click Scan for hardware changes to load a usable driver.

Restart the computer in Safe Mode, and then select Last Known Good Configuration, which rolls back to the most recent successful registry configuration.

As a last resort, you can EDIT the registry directly. For more information, see the Registry Reference in the Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Resource Kit at http://www.microsoft.com/reskit.
