Answer» My old(80 mhz)Gateway pc stopped recognizing the cd rom after I deleted the cdrom icon in my computer. I then attempted to REFORMAT the hard drive. It still wont recognize it. I have substitued a known good cd rom.Still nothing...Gotta have that cd rom to reload win 95 HELP!!!!!!!!!!!It does not redetect your CD-ROM drive upon restart?
Obtain drivers from the CD-ROM manufacturer.There is no operating system in it right now.If I attempt to REBOOT from the bood disc, I get the "no drives found" message when it attempts to reinstall the cdrom drivers.dowload a win95 bootdisk with cdrom driver bootdisks.com.....them at the a:\> sys c: now load the win95 install disk....tried that, I get a system disk error ....I cant believe this is that difficult !! why did you remove the cdrom drive from the device manager!To make a short story long Merlin, I wanted use this computer to run a ham radio program. At the time, I was eliminating everything that I would never use. I know better than to delete icons, etc. but, I t was just a wrong click I guess. Everything worked before, I just couldnt use the cd rom . Now I really dont have anything. However, Im pretty sure I'll find the help I need here. This site comes highly recommended. Thanks to you all.So now, what do I do?? got a computer with no operating system installed, wont read boot discs, the only one it will read aborts after it says it isnt an IBM computer. can I install a cd-rom dos driver??if so how? you may try leaving the 95 boot floppy in the drive.and the win95 install disk...it should display boot with cdrom support.....Ok Merlin, but this isnt n IBM computer, its ans old Gateway. Or will these commands make the ibm boot disc work?

I would guess this is a 1st generation Pentium with 1st generation CDROM. Most of them required special boot disks and special drivers. Is it really worth all the trouble, when you can get a PII for almost nothing?
