Solve : CD ROM not seen by computer?

Answer»

I went to us my cdrom drive, which I havent used for a long time, and I noticed after it wouldn't play that it is not listed in the my computer section. I thought that it was dead so I bought a NEW one and that on not reconized by the computer either. PLEASE help I don't know what to try next. ThanksIs this a ide or a sata drive?not sure the computer came from dell it is a cd/r dvd combo driveSATA uses the thin (narrow) cable and IDE uses the wide ribbon cable IDE You've probably got the jumper pin configuration incorrect on the back of the drive. Is there another drive CONNECTED to the same ribbon cable that the new cd/dvd drive is connected to?

edit: did you remember to connect the power cable to the drive (not only the data cable)

No it goes from the bak of the cdrom to the board. I put the ribbon back on the old cdrom drive. If it isn't set already, set the PIN on the back of the drive to MASTER and SEE if it shows up in my computer. If MASTER doesn't work, set the PIN to CABLE SELECT, and then see if it shows in MY COMPUTER

There should be some directions on how to do this on the drive itself..

Be sure the computer is off when you set the jumper pinIf you have it set to master or cable select & the power connected and it still isnt RECOGNISED try a new ribbon
