Solve : cd-rom wont read cd-rw disk?

Answer»

I use a compaq evo d310. it has a compaq ltn486s cd-rom. A generic cd-rom. It reads all other disk types but not cd-rw. after i insert it it continually tells me to insert a disk when i click on the drive. i use windows xp pro. i had this problem on another computer. so i updated the firmware. the problem is i cant find any firmware downloads for this. since it is generic is there a generic firmware i can use?

Thanx,

You said it yourself:  "...A generic cd-rom..."
It's not going to read CDRW's.The guy who works next to me has the same exact computer w/ same cd-rom and it works on his comp.

Tanx,

Cadman32002Perhaps you require to update your mainboard drivers.

My mainboard will refuse to properly read CD's with certain security features if it is not updated.how do i do that?

Thanx,

cadman32002does this apply to you>http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q320174nope thats not it. the disk was burned on a win. 98 sys.

Thanx anyway,

cadman32002http://forum.rpc1.org/portal.phpit doesn't list my cd-rom.

Thanx again,

Same computer...same OS...identical in every way?
Try cleaning your CD drive.  Seems too simple to WORK...but it's WORKED for me.  CDRW's require PERFECT laser alignment and focus. http://www.kensington.com/html/1091.html

You should have been given mainboard drivers on the CD-ROM that came with the mainboard. If you donot have this CD-ROM anymore, obtain them from the manufacturers website.
