Solve : CD-RW & DVD ROM drives?

Answer»

Lately whenever I boot up, I get annoying messages saying "Found new hardware" for my CD-RW & DVD ROM drives which came already installed with my 3-year old PC, and wants to go thru the Hardware Installation Wizard process. Checking Device Manager and Device Signing indicates the drivers are ok and working properly, and I end up having to cancel out of it. What can be causing this, and how can it be fixed? Any help will be greatly appreciated. The CD Drive might not be connected properly. After you cancel it, does it still WORK?
And of course, what computer are you USING and what CD Drive is it?The PC is a Dell Dimension 4600 and the CD drive is a Sony CRX216E. Is this something related to BIOS to correct? What happened prior to this? What operating system? Is it seen correctly in the BIOS? ETC.?The drives still work, I just want to get rid of the annoying "Found new hardware" when I boot up. Probably the reason it happened is I was trying to install an MTP driver for a Sandisk mp3 player which the PC would not recognize as a removable drive. In the process I MUST have hosed something up. I am not familiar enough to know how to access the BIOS. Am RUNNING Windows XP, SP2.Uninstall the MTP driver that didn't work...that's where the problem lies.
