Answer» I am new in this forum...I HOPE you can help me.
I was having problems with my HP 8660 during booting due to CMOS ( I think). So I changed the battery in the computer. It worked fine for about an hour, then it died. It is completely DEAD.
I would apprecaite your comments and help.
Thanks FrankChanging the battery doesn't usually mean the computer is dead. Do you at least see the power supply fan working? If not then it was only your power supply. Test it out by unplugging it from the motherboard. If the powersupply works and when you plug it into your motherboard and it doesnt then your motherboard is dead. Thanks for your response.
Your suggesting that it MAY be the power supply or the motherboard. Does it have any connection to the cmos battery?
How do I check if it is the power supply vs. the mother BOARD?
Thanks again FrankCheck by unplugging the power supply from the motherboard.
Usually if the motherboard is dead the power supply wont run so that is why you unplug it from the moterboard first.
