Solve : CHARGER GOT BURNT?

Answer»

Hey guys,
Last night i was working on my pc and suddenly the current is very high and immediately the adapter(charger) got burnt and RESTORE light straight to the mother borad and the system shut dowm instantly.I perceived a odour like smelling of some burnt electrical component on the mother board after unscrew it.Wht can i do to retictfy this problem?can you open your PC and check for any char marks? I don't think you can 'rectify' this problem-evidently something has been damaged and you will need a replacement, most likely the motherboard. Are you using a laptop/netbook??Quote from: Ademil4vic

Exactly what section/component ect. were you working on at this time?

I assume this is a laptop as you stated "charger"?

Do you have a volt/ohm meter to test the 'charger' output voltage? And/or to test the resistance on the machine power input?

This is very bad. Computer probably destroyed.
Tahnks to you all
system naem:HP laptop and i was working on MS word and some other pages.
frankling speakin when i opened the system and brought the board,it was confirmed that four ic power ic got burnt.but til now system is offIf you burnt an "IC" (I think you mean capacitator) on your motherboard you will have definitely have to replace it...

Capacitators are the round cylindrical things.Quote from: Transfusion on August 22, 2011, 11:52:16 AM

1. If he says an IC there's no reason to doubt, given the symptoms he described, that he means an IC. It stands for "INTEGRATED Circuit".

A voltage regulator IC, often called simply a "power IC". They are dotted around most motherboards, and if a short circuit or component failure occurs, they can, as described, burn up.

2. There is no such thing as a "capacitator".

I agree, though, the motherboard may need REPLACING.

Capacitator.... Capacitor

Oh there are ICs on motherboards? I thought they only existed in power supplies.Quote from: Ademil4vic

Please ignore this question. I thought you MEANT you were physically working on a hardware issue.

I also agree that the motherboard is bad.
In most situations, replacing the motherboard in a laptop is more costly than simply buying a new laptop. But if it's a recently manufactured HP machine, it may be worth repairing.

What is the exact ''model and 'p/n' of your machine (found on the lable on the underside of your machine)?Quote from: Transfusion on August 22, 2011, 09:12:08 PM

Your ignorance is clearly very great; but it seems not to prevent you from posting on topics you know little or nothing about.

Integrated circuits are everywhere; a cpu microprocessor is an IC, so is every single "chip" on the motherboard and elsewhere in a computer. I will admit I am very ignorant... I thought IC meant internal control, and went on a completely different train of thought. I have heard of Integrated Circuits, and am aware that Quote from: Salmon Trout on August 23, 2011, 12:07:17 AM

I'm trying to learn every DAY... and it is clear I have a looong way to go.
