Solve : Clearing unknown BIOS password?

Answer»

I have attempted do all the things I have found to do with no luck. I STILL can't in. I have taken the battery out for 10 minutes+ and that has not helped. I have an older Packard Bell computer that we got in 1997. Any other suggestions? Was it unplugged from the wall at the time? What are you trying to accomplish? Are there any pins or a jumper near the battery that can be shorted (with the power off and battery out) to clear the CMOS?

Maybe removing the battery for longer with the computer unplugged would help.I predict it was left plugged in. Scary. Yes, the computer was unplugged. from the back. What I am trying to accomplish is to be able to use the computer. Can't boot when no password will work. There MAY be a a jumper setting on the motherboard or a dip switch. Have you checked for any support documents on the web site or e-mailed them?

Usually removing the battery as you report will do it. You may need to LEAVE it out longer. This is not a lapttop is it?No, this is not a laptop. Yes, I have also inquired with priorityonesupport, have not gotten a response yet.Leave the battery out overnight and check again. Was this originally your computer? are there any switches on the motherboard? What is the model #?Yes, this was originally my computer. I will take the battery out again, overnight. The model #R500. I don't see any switches. The other possibility would be jumpers on the moherboard, but no battery should do this as well. Let us know. Hi........just to let you know I got the puter up and running. I ended up leaving the battery out for 2 days and when I turned it on I held the shift key down.
Thank you for all your advice and help!!!TWO days, huh?

Glad you are up and running. Actually I guess it would still be considered 1 DAY...24 hour period of time. Hey....I can't help it I'm a blond. Ooops..is that ok to say?
