How would I know whether the 3v, CMOS battery on the Main Board of my desktop needs to be replaced.

Thank you.Generally you'll notice some symptom(s) such as the system not maintaining the correct TIME or bios settings reverting to "reset". If you think it needs to be replaced, replace it. It's a cheap enough part.Thank you for the help.

Everything check out OK ?I DOWNLOADED ubuntu 12.0.4.1 because it undertakes support for 5 years, whereas the latest version suuports only for 2 years. IMGburn, the installer downloaded but for some reason the installation was not successful. Before trying that again, I tried the Windows Image Burner and Ubuntu image burned to the DVD nicely. This was done on my laptop.

The desktop I am trying to revive, NEEDED much cleaning and I finished only a little while ago. Now it is ready and tomorrow I will switch on and check it with Ubuntu.

I would certainly have informed you of the results, even if you did not ask! So tomorrow I will post the test results here. I will send you a private message as well, if you allow that.
