Answer» Hi. I am a newbie to WEB design. I just started TAKING a class and am doing fine with text. However, I am trying to FTP my .jpg images and am having problems.
I have all my assignments, photos for them, etc. in one folder. The pathname for the image is something like this: sarajames/Desktop/ABC/HTMLSUM05/FTP/photo.jpe. I tried the code . I was able to view the photos and text on my local browser. However, when I proceeded to FTP the page, I kept getting an error message of "drive not ready. cannot locate directory." After clicking OK, I would then be able to see my text and the alt attribute but obviously not my image.
In case it's important, I am just using MS Word as a text editor. I don't know if that matters. My photos are also digital photos that I uploaded into my computer, which makes them .jpe and .jpg. Is this OK?
What am I doing wrong? Can someone help me with the code? As you can see, I'm confused! What program are you using to FTP?
Recommend using >NVu< as your web editor. (It's free.)Hi. Thanks for your recommendation for NVu. I will definitely check it out. I work on a Mac and have been using Fetch.
Can you help me with the code? I'm stuck since I don't understand why the code is not working for me.
Thank you.I'm afraid I'm not a Mac user and couldn't say for sure what that error message means. I've never used "Fetch". The only thing I can see wrong with your , is that it should be ".jpg", not ".jpe". I don't recognise the ".jpe" extension - is that Mac-specific? It's still a JPEG photo, right?
Does it work, when you change that?
I hope you get on with NVu. Word is an absolutely horrendous web editor; worse even than FrontPage. Rob,
YES, .jpe is still a JPEG photo. My computer seems to upload two versions of my photos, one is a .jpg and the other is .jpe. .jpe is easier and faster to download than the .jpg version. I will try my tags again. Although, I did change from .jpe to .jpg a number of times without success.
So, I just want to confirm with you that for the pathname I attached in my original POSTING, the is correct?
I really appreciate your replies.
Thank you.
Yeah, you're using the right syntax.
I don't think that the .jpe extension will be recognised by browsers on other platforms. You might want to bear that in mind.
Rememebr to make sure that all the files are in the right folders at your web HOST end. Feel free to post a link to the web host if you want some help diagnosing problems.
