Solve : COM PORT NUMBER?

Answer»

Hi,

I have 4 com ports (COM1, COM2, COM3, COM4) on my computer.

How can I know the number of each port connector? the connectors don't have any phisycal numbers on them...

You COULD consult your computer manual. Usually it is STATED there. You could also ask google, What operating system?  Aren't COM ports assigned by the operating system? Thanks for the replies!

I don't have any manual...

Before I asked you I already searched google.

I don't think that the system will help me, because I need to know the position of the port (behind the PC) and his number

Plz I need your helpppHumor me, and tell us what operating system you're using, please. The operation system is Windows 2000HERE is some very basic information about com ports.

With older computers and operating systems, you assigned com ports to various devices as needed.  A modem often RAN from Com 1 or Com 3.  I don't believe the ports on the BACK of the computer are "numbered."  You may have a serial port and a parallel port, but I'm not sure that modern operating systems number them, anymore.I know com ports very WELL. I took a course on it.

I need to make a .Net program with the COM port.

I need to know which of the ports behind the PC is COM1 for the program.

Is there a PC program or something else, that know which port is attached? Quote

Good for you.  So, if you have all this knowledge, what's the problem?

I did a search on the Internet to see if I could find how Windows 2000 handles com ports, but the results weren't good.

We used to connect modems and serial mice to com ports.  Printer port connections were handled by the driver software.

I'm still trying to remember having to use Windows to "set" the com ports.  It's been a long time.
