Solve : Compaq Presario 6400nx Running Hot?

Answer»

I have a Compaq Presario 6400nx and the north bridge has a heat sink and its hot enough to burn you and the south bridge has no heat sink and its also hot that it can burn you. The ram is Very warm, ONES stick is a 512mb and other is 256mb. I tryed each stick separately but still gets hot. The processor is an AMD Athlon 1800+ at 1.53ghz. I also GOT this used so maybe someone messed with jumpers or something.

I have no idea why its that hot cause im pretty sure its not SUPPOSE to be.Have you checked the cpu temp? The memory and heat sink will run hot. If you check into memory HARDWARE you will find some come with heat spreadersDownload HWMonitor and see what it shows for temperatures. Avoid touching any chips. Electric-Static Discharge (ESD) can damage them. There are Northbridge COOLER fans available at any PC shop.CPUID HWMonitor shows for temperatures is TMPIN1- 35C (94F), TMPIN2- 40C (103F) and THRM- 40C (103F) but THRM has not changed.

If those temperatures are accurate, then they're fine.

You shouldn't be touching the components while they're running anyway.
