Solve : Compaq Presario cq problem with Factory Reset?

Answer»

I am not sure of the MODEL because this is a question from someone else. However, I do know that it is a Compaq Presario Laptop and will get the full model of it later. In the meantime I'm hoping someone might be able to help with this problem. We are trying to factory reset this Laptop that is about 3-4 years OLD and it seems to be tacking forever to reset, it was stuck at 30% for about a day and not it's only on 43% after 2 and a half days. When I read about how to reset it, it said that it would tack about 7 hours to complete. The thing is I don't WANT to keep leaving it on for this amount of time especially over night plugged into the mains in case it catches fire, but I cannot unplug it because it tells me to plug it back in and I am lost what to do with it. Could it be taking this long to Factory Reset? Also, if i turn it off could I just stick a windows disc and use the serial key on the back of the LapTop? I will give more info on the model a bit later. Thankyou!!You could in fact use a CD to re-install it as long as the versions of the OS match exactly...
You would however have to visit the Compaq site and DLoad and install all neccessary drivers.

However i suspect you have HDD issues if it's taking that long to complete. Quote from: patio on May 12, 2012, 09:10:48 AM

Hi, We stopped the factory reset at 44% and I am now trying to install using a Vista Basic Disc. The Laptop is a Presario CQ70 211EM, and the problem now is when I run the vista disk it doesn't find a hard drive to format and install windows on. However, it does say the following >>No drives were found. Click load driver to provide a mass storage driver for installation<< What does this mean? I just pressed next, but it found nothing on the windows disk and we don't have any software disks with this laptop. So what now? Anyone know what to do from here? Is there a way I could just use something that will completely wipe the drive and hope then that it formats from the windows disk, or will I have to use a recovey disk I don't have?

Will it need the recovery disk for a Presario CQ70-211EM? But where do I get this for free because we havn't got one? Surely this isn't going to cost us to recover something we already have? We have the serial on the back of the laptop for Vista Basic. Thankyou!!Update: I just tried the Vista Basic disk again and now it does find a hard drive but one that is 0mb in size. I press new and try to punch in a number to create space but it won't do anything other then stay at 0mb. What do I need to do exactly to get this formatted and up and running again? In the Bios it refers to the drive as Netbook Harddrive. I have also tried re-installing the factory recover again because I believe that is on a separate HD but it doesn't find that anymore. I don't think it is the Hard drive because it was working before with windows and we just needed to reinstall because we are selling it. Thankyou!!Just found out it was a major mistake stopping the laptop when it was 44% complete because you cannot use a windows disk to format this laptop and install windows. For stopping it at 44% the computer HD is no good making the computer totally redundant without a new HD. Now I see why nobody has replied, but if there is another way around this I'm all ears.Based on your comments, I can't be sure whether you have a failed HD but it seems so.  If so, then, of course, you would need to replace it to get the computer working again.  If you want to proceed in that direction, I suggest you also contact HP to order a recovery disc for that computer.  Discs can be ordered for a fairly small fee.  Quote from: soybean on May 23, 2012, 07:56:09 PM

The bit I am confused about is why can't I just format this HD using a normal windows disc and forget about the recovery side of things? When I try this I get to the stage where it asks me where I want to install windows, but there is only a disk that reads 0.0MB and the bottom it says The selected partition requires at LEAST 7589 MB free space. However, when I try to press new and extend it to 7589, it reads at the bottom the size must be at most 0 MB Does this mean it found a HD or not and cannot write to it? I have looked in the Bios and I don't see anything point to what HD is installed in this computer. Where would it tell me in this bios what HD is installed because only then will I know if it's ACTUALLY seeing a HD or not?The fact that it was taking forever to write data as well as your current problems point to a Hard disk issue.
