Answer» Does ANYONE know what CPU socket a Compaq Presario 1700t uses? I just inherited one from my brother, and it is SLOW with 64MB ram and a 593Mhz Pentium III. I am thinking of upgrading both, but not sure about the CPU.
Anyone with any insight to the type and style, as well as a good place to buy, your assistance is greatly appreciated.
Thanks, BrettBelow site offers guarantee on the correct memory. It appears that is the way to add speed to your notebook. You should be able to go from 64MB to 512 MB using 2 sticks of ram.
www.crucial.comUpgrading a CPU is not advisable in a laptop unless you are extremely CONFIDENT working INSIDE one. Apart from the fact everything is squashed together, the extra heat and power requirements of a faster CPU make the upgrade very difficult. More RAM is the way to go if you want more speed, or a new notebook.Give up on the processor idea, get more RAM. Go to www.crucial.com and see exactly what you NEED.
