Answer» Ok, heres my question. I have recently been given the above laptop by a friend to see if i can get it working again. It will not boot. The power button iluminates, the fan works, the CD rom makes a noise, nothing else. Anyway, i have SPENT some time looking on web and have tried a number of old wives tales before opening up the laptop, to find what i think is no RAM. I have downloaded the SERVICE MANUAL and this also says that the location where i have an empty RAM port, should have RAM in it. I went back to the owner who says, that no one has been in the laptop and it just stopped working. I have took the full back off the cover and the RAM has not worked loose, its not in the laptop moving about. My question to everyone is in 3 parts...
1 - is there a second RAM built in to the laptop which i may have overlooked? 2 - would lack of RAM CAUSE my symptoms? 3 - is my friend telling porkies? I vote for # 3...im thinking the same.
Would the computer have these symptoms with no RAM? Most PC's will not boot properly nor POST for that matter without RAM...duh it loads t he bios code into ram to POST no ram no boot infact read my post about the compaq presario no post ----edit---- the exact topic i meant was no post on (old) compaq pc This was already stated...thanks both of you. My concern was more that i had nothing at all, and have read that no RAM = bleeping noises and error messages. Thanks though, will look into a new RAMTravel to Crucial.com and enter the MACHINE specs...that will tell you what to shop for.OK, just found a further manual and have located a second ram (top RAM). so unfortunatly question 3 was wrong.
Is it likely to still be a currupt RAM? or can it be other things?
