Answer» I have a china made (no brand name) with a burned out 16 inch blue cold cathode bulb. I would like to replace it or maybe change the colors. I have not been able to find a 16 incher. BEST I COULD come up with is a 15 inch at New Egg. Any body got an idea on where to look. I have tried some China wholesalers but no luck. This is a ATX full size tower.Where is this tube? If it's just inside the case the length shouldn't matter.
I would also recommend looking into an LED strip as they tend to be more reliable, flexible and a lot easier to work with. Most LED strips allow you to cut them down to whatever length you require. To follow up: Turns out the tube was just a plastic tube with small LED's stuck in either end. One was burned out so I just removed the socket and wired in a replacement. I couldn't find blue so I used white which was ok. These bulbs are from case front LED replacement wires. Pure decoration and cheap to do. Also, easy to fix.Just wanted to point out that LEDs rarely fail and when they do its likely because they were over driven ( over powered ) such as missing the 470 ohm resistor in series with the LED. And LED can be powered directly from 5 Volt source, and it will be BRIGHT, but the life of the LED wont last many years running it like this.
*If you find yourself having to replace the LED again, check to see if there is a 470 ohm 1/4 watt resistor in series with the LEDs. It will dim them compared to direct 5 volt power, but they will last longer, likely longer than the life of the computer case.
I am an electronics technician, and bounce back and forth between ET and IT, and I see all sorts of incorrect electronics that come to the USA from China that need correcting for design flaws.
More info in case anyone doesnt know what a resistor is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ResistorDave: Thanks for the extra info. Doesn't suprise me that a lot of mistakes come from China: like Melomae in the dog food, slave labor, corruption, etc.
