Solve : Computer crashes at startup?

Answer»

Hi all, if anyone could help me I would really appreciate it.

My 3 year old self made PC has recently started playing up. Up till now I've never had any MAJOR problems.

I went away for a week but when I returned and turned it on the case lights and FANS flashed on before powering off a split second later. I tried again and the next time it loaded completely, I used it for about 30 min before it switched off by itself. After that, I loaded it again and it worked fine for about an hour, I was able to turn it off normally. Since the day after that I haven't been even able to boot at all, it has been switching off at random times throughout the bootup, sometimes a second after powering on and other times after nearly booting completely. When I try to boot in safe MODE it still shuts down by itself.

The only relevant factors I can think of that may have affected it is the one week adsence (I usually use it everyday). I haven't moved it or installed any new hardware for ages.

I've googled this question and tried to work out what to do from other PEOPLE's posts but to no avail. It seems that it could be CMOS battery, power supply failure, ram, virus (I have been using NOD32 since I got it) or soemthing else...

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'll be happy to ANSWER any questions.

Peace,

Dan

your bios update load new bios

You can safely ignore this...

2 things i would do that won't cost much...
Replace the CMOS battery...part #CR 2032...available anywhere.
Borrow a known good PSU of the same or greater wattage and swap it in there to see if that's the culprit. Thanks for the posts, ill see how I get on...
