Answer» The past couple of weeks my computer has been crashing at random times. Most of the time, about 5 minutes into CS, it crashes, or about 10 minutes of the computer on, it crashes. When i try to turn it on, it turns on for about 2 seconds, then shuts back off. I have to wait about a minute, then if I'm lucky enough, it'll turn on. I just reformatted today, and currently running the Stock Windows XP Home edition, on a ECS 661FX-M, on board Video, 512 MB corsair stick. I believe that it may be due to over heating but I have no certain idea.Heat, bad RAM, and bad power supply are the most COMMON causes. This only happens during games?
What is the make and wattage on the outside of the power supply UNIT?
Test your RAM with a free download at www.memtest86.com
Take off the side of the case and blow a fan directly in there and see if it improves things while gaming.
Post back your findings. It doesn't only happen during games, but when i do play a game it does crash. All i know about my power supply is that it's 300W and the model is MDT-301.Alright so, I just went a good hour or two without crashing, then 5 minutes into CS, it crashed, and I had to wait about a minute to get back on. I assume it's most likely heating, I have a better PSU that came with the new case i bought and i'll try switching them.Let us know. Did you try any of the other advice, like the fan? That's pretty easy, and free. Well, I switched PSU's and it crashed about 10 minutes later instead of 5. I'll go ahead and try the fan thing.Check the fan on the vid card when you remove the side panel...
Might be a good time to do some housekeeping in there as well.
Make sure all power supply has been removed and take the neccessary ESD precautions.
A can of compressed AIR is a good tool for this. Do NOT use a vacuum.I recently messed with the bios and it got stuck on the boot screen, I had to reset the CMOS by removing the battery for a while, and it fixed all my problems, no more crashing.
