Solve : Computer died?

Answer»

I have a new computer that I built about 4 months ago. It worked great up till last night when it RANDOMLY shut down. Now it is dead. When I turn on the power all the fans start for a millisecond then stop. Everything seems in PLACE, could this be a faultly power supply?

What are your system temperatures and what type of Power Supply Unit is installed?450W power supply
asus p4p800 se motherboard
120G harddrive
1 gig Ram
cd writer/ dvd player
ati 9600 xt 256 mb
3 case fans
floppy drive
I don't know the temps as that computer does not show it readily. But the dust level was quite high. The computer is on 24/7. The air flow in that part of the house is nil except when the AC is on.No. It moves the fans about 1 revolution and that is all. Nothing shows on the screenTry testing the Power Supply Unit Quote

If fans (in PSU, if monitored and CPU) won't spin freely, computer shuts down to protect itself.

Computer should work fine in 80deg ambient temp.

THANKS guys! It was the power supply. At least it wasn't the MB or something more expensive!  Again, Thanks,   JimGood to HEAR. Have you bought a proper PSU this time?Yes, and I think this one will last awhile Very good, keep it clean by using a can of pressurized air if you see excessive dust build up.I have a leaf blower that runs at 200 Km/Hr.That sounds about right, Fed.  MIND if I borrow it? The dust level in this house is comparable to my work, which has a sandblasting department!
