Answer» Hi..I went to help someone with their usb drive which was not ALLOWING them to download onto their flashdrive.
It appears that the computer(dell DIMENSION 4600 XP) does not recognize Drive F, removeable disc.
I did some RESEARCH and went to disc management and so on and the computer does not have any drive listed except for C.
How can I fix this and how could a drive like that be removed?
Thanks for any help given.
Computer Chic can you another one system? Im sorry, I didnt understand your REPLY...So the flash drive does not show up in disk management at all ? ? Does it show up on your machine or any OTHERS ? ? Is this a brand new drive or has it been used before ? ? Sorry this is all questions but it will help.
Some flash drives have a micro-switch on them for security...so let us know what brand this is also to narrow things down. Thanks everyone for their help. What happened was I just went over to this person's house, and updated the bios and chipset and drivers. Still nothing.
Then I unplugged a usb printer cable and viola! the p/c recognized the flashdrive. Then it showed up in disc management, and then we were able to d/l quickbooks!
So, too much power was being drawn from the usb ports. 3 were involved in this conspiracy. So I advised her to get a usb hub for efficiency and safety!
So simple but something I never considered.
Computer ChicGood Work !
Something to keep in mind for future use...most front panel USB ports are notoriously under powered as well and whenever diagnosing USB troubles it's best to unplug as many devices as possibele.
