Answer» Need help, we had a power SURGE and one of our HP 7100 CMT computers wont do anything at all. If you hold down the power button the light will come on, but when you let it go, it goes back off. The fans wont even kick on. I tried replacing the power SUPPLY and the power switch, but nothing seems to workJust gave me 2 cents to another who had a power surge as well. Here is what I WROTE....
I'm sorry to say but you may be in a whole mess of problems now. A BUDDY of mine had a power surge with his.. Ended up frying his power supply, some of his RAM, harddrives and cd drive (I want to say mobo as well). Your going to have to find a way to test all your components. That really stinks.. You should invest in a UPS. Might want to check with your powerstrip. Some of them have surge protectors on them and back it with a warranty. I know my UPS's states im covered up to $100k.
Good luck, MacKSince you replaced the power supply & assuming it is good i would say the mother board was taken out with the power surge. When you get it up and running buy a surge protector .Keep posted on resultsThanks, the computer is in one of the classrooms, so they wont give it and UPS for that one. Hopefully its nothing bigWas wondering if anyone knew of a mystical HP manual that explained anything that could go wrong with a PC, or one that comes kinda close. [Google] amazon.com. type in computer, not saying you will find what you LIKE but you might?Quote from: nalee on September 25, 2008, 11:46:53 AM Was wondering if anyone knew of a mystical HP manual that explained anything that could go wrong with a PC, or one that comes kinda close.
Not sure what you mean...go to HP website and look around in the Support section. They'll probably have the manual for your computer - usually in downloads.
