Answer»

Hello:
costum build

CPU: P4 3.2 Ghz
RAM: 1G
HD: 80 G
VGA: Inboard VIA/S3G Unichrome pro igp
OS: Windows XP 32 bit Sp2

Recently i had heating problems that i fix with a new power supply and new cpu fan. Computer is running normal at 27C temp.

My problem now is that in random time the computer just lock on a black screen. The only way to RESTARTED is on is by depressing the reset botton on the front of the tower.

Any ideas...

Does it do it when you are using the computer or when you leave it running and come back to it?it does that in both situations, while using it or living it aloneWhat brand and WATTAGE is the new PSU ? ?The PSU is LOGISYS Computer PS575XBK ATX12V 575W PCI-E Power Supply 100-120V/ 200-240V cUL, FCC, CB, CE, CSA.

The one that i had before was 450W. I notice that when the computer goes on a black screen,. the computer still on...!!!I had a monitor that would blank out after a while, that was shortly before it put on an interesting pyrotechnic show

have you been able to capture a temp fairly close to the time the display blanks out? could be Video CARD related (and on that note Video Driver Related).I have been monitoring the comp temp every time since i upgrade the PSU, and the CPU fan. So how can i know if is a driver problem or a VGA problem?
Try installing newer Video Card Drivers- If the problem remains its probably fine on the driver side.

I assume that other then the Disk check the computer doesn't bring up any errors when you turn it back on?

Next time it blanks out try this(worked for me with Video problems before):

Also: does your monitor light change color/is it a different color when it blanks out?

Windows Key+R, type CMD sometimes the card just needs to reinitialize the video mode or something, not sure why that worked for me.

Also you could try the same thing, but instead of cmd, type of gibberish, then press enter. if you hear a sound, the computer is still running at the same time (only the video has blanked out)
